Every idol in our collection begins as a raw block of seasoned teak or rosewood. Our artisans, many of whom learned the craft from their fathers and grandfathers, spend anywhere from a few days to several weeks carving a single piece by hand.
The process starts with rough shaping using traditional chisels, followed by progressively finer detail work — facial features, jewelry, and the flowing lines of fabric are all carved freehand, guided by decades of experience rather than machine templates.
Once carving is complete, the idol is sanded through several grits, then finished with a natural oil that brings out the grain of the wood and protects it for generations.
